Fashion School : The process, Step 1
I started working on a freelance project this morning and I had this idea... maybe I should document my process! Since I am a fashion illustration professor, I think it's fitting.
Say hello to the 'croquis', French for sketch. This is the general term used for the figure drawing in the fashion world. She is 9 heads tall, not the typical 7-8 heads of an average figure. The extra hight allows the elongation of the figure, giving a more dramatic "frame" on which to display the illustrated garment(s). This croquis is in the 'S-Curve' pose. It is a best pose, in my opinion, to display a head-on drawing of a garment. Notice her bust line, waist line and hip line sort of create an "S"...hence the name. Stay tuned for the rest of the process...
*If you are interested in learning more, I highly recommend the book 9 Heads by Nancy Riegelman, the queen (again, in my opinion) of fashion illustration. I learned from this book and I also had the amazing opportunity to be taught by Nancy herself when I was in school at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. You can find it on Amazon here.

Re-Vision: A Tribe Called Mommy
I have decided to add a bit more content to this little corner of the blog world. While I will still be posting mostly about my artwork I would love to start sharing more glimpses of my life. I am more than an artist. I am a wife, mother, teacher, fashion lover, vegan foodie, health nut, essential oil obsessed, wanna be gardener, a...this list could go on and on. I'm one of those people. I like to have a lot on my plate at one time, then I like to pile on more. (<---sarcasm)
I have been searching for a "tribe", if you will, a group of like-minded people who share similar interests. I've been longing for a community of other women artists who are also Mothers. Why? Well...to be honest, it's really freakin' hard! But I wouldn't have it any other way. Sometimes you just wanna feel like you aren't alone in this crazy life.
My new vision for this blog is to share stories from other artist Mommy's, in addition to my own ramblings and sketchbook shots. Not just illustrators like myself, but in other areas of the creative world. We learn best from our peers and I want to learn from YOU. I want to share what I have learned thus far. Things I love. Things I do for myself and my family. What inspires me and who inspires me.
I'll figure out a cool handshake for our tribe ladies *wink*
Peace out!
